Meet the Director
Dená McReynolds is a dedicated educator, child advocate, and lifelong learner with a heart for nurturing young minds. As the founder and director of Mini Munchkin Academy, she has created a vibrant, home-based learning environment where children are seen, heard, and guided through every stage of their growth. Drawing from the best of Montessori, Reggio Emilia, and Waldorf philosophies, Dená believes in teaching the whole child—balancing curiosity, creativity, and structure to help kids thrive as they explore their world.
Dená’s passion for early childhood development began with her studies at San Francisco State University, where she studied Psychology and Sociology with an emphasis on Marriage and Family Therapy. Her work as an ABA Therapist, supporting youth on the autism spectrum, deepened her understanding of how individualized care can transform lives. This knowledge informs everything she does, from tailoring learning experiences at Mini Munchkin Academy to mentoring caregivers as a CPR and Health and Safety Instructor.
For over 11 years, Dená ran a family child care that was more than just a service—it was a community. Her belief in high-quality, accessible care has carried over into her role as an Executive Board Member of Providers for Quality Child Care, where she works to elevate standards and support fellow providers.
Dená’s approach is driven by compassion, creativity, and a deep respect for the individuality of each child. Whether she’s leading a circle time, coaching on safety protocols, or speaking up for providers, she’s all in—because for her, every child deserves to feel safe, inspired, and valued.
